Many of us want to be able to identify the different species of birds we see. We practice until we have seen a species often enough to link name with what we see. Then, how often do we actually look at the entire bird? Have you ever really looked at a robin? Just for the fun of it, with pencil and paper, draw a robin. Indicate color. Its breast is what we see. But, what color is its head? It's back? It's stomach? Its throat? What's noteworthy about the eyes? How about the bill? If you're correct on those last three items you're looking.
