I usually like to talk about plants, but today I'm looking for your opinion on "garden whimsy." You know -- those little things people put in their garden because they think it's so cute! Personally, I'm not a fan.

Why gaze at a glass ball, when you can find intricacies in a Stargazer lily. What's up with the trolls? Are you trying to welcome garden helpers or scare them away? I understand the use of interesting looking pots and sizeable sculpture -- if you have space. However, I think anything smaller than 3 feet that doesn't have purpose in the garden should be banished.

OK, OK, I do have ONE piece of garden whimsy and it is pictured here. Leap frog, get it? It was a gift and actually something that I considered not too tacky to allow amongst my greenery. It sits outside the garden space and breaks up the edge of the pond.

So I'm not a total ogre (or troll) about garden whimsy. Just don't make me add a woman bending over showing her bloomers to my vegetable garden!!!!

So are you a fan? What do you have in your back yard -- and more importantly WHY?
