YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES

Five examples of the kitchen color trend
Le Creuset, the cast-iron cookware company, recently introduced a new hue to its collection. Called Cassis, this deep purple color is both bright and deep. The color is available in eight enameled cast-iron products and two utensils. Available at Macy’s stores or www.macys.com.

Home chefs not willing to commit to the color trend can limit brights to storable items. This folding colander from Joseph Joseph is a bright electric green. It stores flat and has locking clips, top handles and folding hinges. $20 at www.JosephJoseph.com.
Solids are dominating the bright trend, and some items even combine several colors. The Rainbow Silicone Whisks from Kuhn Rikon are multicolored whisks available in three shapes -- butterfly, balloon or flat. Prices starts at $14 at www.Amazon.com or www.Cooking.com.
Smaller items, such as instant-read thermometers, also are getting colorful. The Instant Read Thermometer from Taylor USA is available in eight colors, including bright green, blue and orange. $10 at Sur La Table stores.
Bright appliances add a splash of color to somber kitchens. Color appliances used to be limited to stand mixers, but toasters are now available in bright shades. The Bistro Toaster is a two-slice toaster with variable browning and temperature settings. It is made of stainless steel and has a rubberized finish in a bright red or purple color. $69.95 at www.BodumUSA.com.
