Plants for pros "Durable Plants for the Garden" (Fulcrum Publishing, $24.95) features plants from the "Plant Select" program developed by the Denver Botanic Gardens and Colorado State University to highlight outstanding plants for the Rocky Mountain and High Plains regions.

Academic in tone, the book probably will be of interest only to experienced and/or ambitious Minnesota gardeners who are seeking new (and perhaps hard-to-find) plants.

Many of the plants in the book prefer dry conditions, and not all are hardy here. But candid assessments of each plant and practical information about propagation make it an interesting read for those looking for unusual additions to their garden.
