Goodbye Greengirls, welcome Homegirls

Despite our wackier-than-normal weather, the Star Tribune Greengirls garden blog had a great season. From our real, live plant swap in the spring to our virtual garden tours in the fall, we dished the dirt about everything from garden soil prep, to chicken coops, to planting garlic, to dealing with way too many green tomatoes. We've called it quits for another season, but we'll be back in the spring.

Until then, the Homegirls are picking up the conversation and taking it inside. Our new home-related blog will be just as fresh, just as sassy. But instead of blogging about planting pears in Minnesota, we'll talk about where to get the best deals on party favors, how to wow your family by fixing the light switch and when you can skip ironing the table linens.

Come on and join the conversation at startribune.com/homegirls.

Wine and roses

You can stroll the winterproof gardens inside the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory while sipping wine, sampling food pairings and listening to music as part of Como's "Bouquets" wine tasting event from 7 to 10 p.m. on Dec. 3. At this annual fundraiser, vintners offering samples of more than 70 wines will line the pathways of the conservatory and Twin Cities restaurants and specialty food vendors will offer food selected to pair with the wines. Guests also will be able to get a preview of the Holiday Flower Show, which features hundreds of poinsettias.

Tickets ($50 per person) can be reserved by calling 651-487-8229 or online at www.comofriends.org.

Oh, one more thing: You must be at least 21 to attend.
