In rare mix of media, A La Carte Soloists (including several members of the Minnesota Orchestra) will host a chamber music concert -- and a floral display.
The music, including Bach, Beethoven and Puccini, will be played as an accompaniment to a display of 20 Japanese flower arrangements. The free, flower-fueled event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the University Club, 420 Summit Av., St. Paul. For more information, call 651-222-1751.
Fall in flowersAs far as fall colors go, this year wasn't a stunner. If you haven't had your fill of inspiring reds, golds and oranges, you might have to get them under glass -- at Como Park. Starting Saturday, the Sunken Garden in the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory will be filled with chrysanthemums in an array of autumnal colors and accented with ornamental peppers.
The annual Fall Flower Show, a tradition at the conservatory since 1915, runs from Saturday through Nov. 29. Conservatory hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. There's no entry fee to the conservatory, but donations are appreciated. For more information, go to www.comozoo conservatory.org.
Shop the arb in townThe Minnesota Landscape Arboretum's satellite holiday shop is open for business in the Galleria shopping mall in Edina. The temporary shop, which will be open mall hours through Dec. 31, features local handicrafts and unique gardening gifts, including handmade jewelry, pottery and wood-turned bowls as well as specialty baking mixes and nature-based books. This year, there also will be apples from the arboretum's horticultural research center, as long as they last. For more information about the holiday shop, call 952-443-1439.
