YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
Fragrance-free pillar candles
Has the winter without end wearied your psyche? The "Lark," "Bee" and "Dragonfly" patterns that congregate on new candles from Black and Light Company give wing to hope that spring is imminent. The 4- and 6-inch fragrance-free pillar candles, hand-poured of food-grade paraffin with all-cotton wicks, come in a variety of water-based colors and additional patterns. The company says the tallest candles should burn for 90 hours with proper care: the wick trimmed to ¼ inch and burned at least two hours at the first lighting, with no draft. Each comes in a reusable box of recycled materials. The Michigan-based company said it contributes 10 percent of Bee candle sales to the honeybee research facility at the University of California, Davis, which is studying the decline in U.S. honeybee populations. Priced at $28 to $34 and available at Max's, 3831 Grand Way, St. Louis Park; 612-922-9405; see details at www.blackandlightco.com.
