Curious about canning? Attend a free workshop, “Canning and Freezing Fruits and Vegetables,” at Gertens. You’ll learn the techniques and fundamentals of preserving small batches of food from your own garden, along with what supplies you’ll need, plus some recipes. The workshop will be offered twice, at 1 p.m. Sat. and 1 p.m. Tue.
Also at Gertens this week will be a free seminar on using perennials to create season-long color in your garden. You’ll learn about soils, fertilizing, design and management, for both sunny and shady sites. The seminar will be held at 6 p.m. Thu.
Gertens is at 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights.
