Seed savers

Three Rivers Parks manages more than 800 acres of restored prairie and needs many volunteers to continue to be successful. Sign up to help wildlife staff collect hundreds of pounds of native wildflower seed to use for restoration and enhancement projects in October at the Crow Hassan Park Reserve in Rogers and Murphy Hanrehan Park Reserve in Savage. Seed collecting also is a chance to learn about the prairie's history and how to identify many of the plants. Collection dates are 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 12 and 19 at Crow Hassan and Oct. 15 at Murphy Hanrehan. Training and collection bags are provided at the start of each session. Volunteers must be 16 or older or be accompanied by a responsible adult. A permission form is needed for participation by minors. Registration required. Seed collectors should check the hot line at 763-694-7849 on the day of the collection for any last-minute changes. To register, go to www.threeriversparks.org/events/Groups/prairie-seed-collection.aspx or call 763-559-6706.
