"Milkweed and nectar-bearing plants support a wide variety of insect life," Gary said. "Everyone wants to push nature as far away as they can, sometimes by mowing everything. We have a conscious plan to invite nature to us."

Gary mows only trails on the couple's 20-acre property, where five different varieties of milkweed and many native plants flourish.

Darcy and Gary know their effort to help the monarchs is miniscule, but they are determined.

"If enough people provide habitat for them, then maybe we can keep them going," Darcy said. "This is our passion."
