Floral masterpieces

Art in Bloom, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts' annual floral festival and fundraiser, features more than 150 arrangements inspired by works in the MIA's collection, April 25-28 at 2400 3rd Av. S. This year's theme is "Global Nature" and includes floral design demonstrations and workshops, a program on "Art in the Digital Age: Floral Wonders," family activities, live music, auctions of floral designs and museum tours. Keynote address is by Chris Giftos, retired master floral designer for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Admission is free; tickets required for special events. Rock the garden

Turn rocks in your garden into landscape art. Stone sculpture artist Peter Juhl will demonstrate how to balance three or more rocks without using duct tape or glue at the class "The Power of Balance: Stone Sculptures for Your Garden," 9:30 a.m. to noon May 4, Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, 3675 Arboretum Dr., Chaska. Fairy whimsy

Kids ages 8 and older can fashion a whimsical fairy house made of concrete, stone and moss at a fairy house workshop, 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 2 and 9, Garden Treasures, 545 Cross St., Anoka. Instruction includes how to make pathways and bridges. All materials are supplied, but you can bring old hardware and trinkets to add accents to your house, which will be painted and taken home May 9. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
