Take a break from shopping and the cold weather to visit the Holiday Flower Show inside the warm historic 1915 Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. It's also a chance to admire new poinsettia cultivars, including "Sparkling Punch" and "Tikal Red," as well as hundreds of other varieties of the classic favorite, a symbol of the holiday season. The free show is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continues through Jan. 6. 225 Estabrook Dr., St. Paul. 651-487-8200.

Wine and wreaths

Sample wines and appetizers and decorate a wreath using inspiration from pro Ardith Beveridge of the Koehler and Dramm Institute of Floristry. The "Gardening Gals Get-Together" is from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 13, at the Minnesota State Horticultural Society, 2705 Lincoln Dr., Roseville. Cost is $35; $30 for members. Register at www.northerngardener.org or call 651-643-3601.

For the birds

Find out how to create a natural habitat for birds and which types of feeders to use for various birds at a free "Backyard Birding" workshop at 1 p.m. Dec. 15 at Gertens, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights. Birding experts will also answer questions. Call 651-450-1501.
