Q What happens to amputated limbs?
Q What happens to amputated limbs?
A After the limb is amputated, it is taken to the hospital's pathology lab. It is kept in a freezer there until it is collected for cremation and proper disposal, according to pathologist assistant Kristin Giesen at Hennepin County Medical Center. Patients can also choose to have the limb sent to a funeral home for cremation or burial. Hospitals can only release body parts to a funeral home.
Cleaning silver
Q I inherited my mother's silver tea set. I am looking for a good silver polish after neglecting it for awhile. Have you any advice?
A Avoid dips. The chemical is strong and can damage the silver. And the homemade remedy of soaking silver in a solution of baking soda and water with a piece of aluminum foil isn't the answer either. It merely turns the black tarnish white.
To clean silver, you'll need a good silver polish and elbow grease. You can hire out the job, however. Get an estimate from a silversmith or plater such as Brinkman's in St. Paul. Prices vary depending on the condition of the silver.
