This is the Christmas stocking that I made for each of our five sons. The stocking is constructed from my white velvet wedding gown.

The decorations are the child's name, a Christmas tree covered with fancy buttons from a collection of buttons that I inherited from my mother, a background of tiny blue stars with gold half-moon and several angels and a Santa in sleigh with reindeer along the bottom.

As our fifth son was born in early December, I had made the stocking all except for the name and took it along to the hospital to finish while I recovered. The nurses admired it and one brought a special button with a pattern of what she called a Christmas Rose to be added to the tree. It is the largest button in the center and is visible on the photo. It always brings fond memories when I see that stocking.

This son recently took a job in Seattle, so for his birthday this year I will fill the stocking with chocolate chip cookies and send it to him! Now all the stockings will have new homes with new families scattered from coast to coast.
