More Minnesota kids receive their H1N1 flu shots

Another round of flu clinics goes smoothly in Twin Cities

Last update: November 21, 2009 - 10:15 PM

Thousands more Minnesota kids were immunized against the H1N1 flu Saturday, a process that apparently went smoothly across the Twin Cities.

Fairview Health System offered walk-in vaccination clinics at its offices in Bloomington, Fridley, Eagan and Wyoming.

Demand was heavy but not overwhelming, said Fairview spokeswoman Jennifer Amundson. In all, 472 patients were vaccinated at the Fairview clinics, she said.

"No lines or backups," she said. "It was helpful that people had so many options with the vaccinations be offered at so many different places. So no one place got slammed."

In addition, public health officials in three suburban cities and four metro-area counties delivered shots and doses of the nasal H1N1 vaccine.

More than 825,000 doses have been distributed in Minnesota since the vaccine began arriving earlier this fall.

However, the vaccine clinics are still targeting high risk groups -- healthy children under age 9, those with chronic health problems through age 18, pregnant women, adults who care for infants under six months, and health care workers. There still is not enough vaccine for healthy older children or for most adults.

Fairview will conduct additional vaccination clinics on Tuesday. Details are posted at www.fairview.org/flu.
