I went to a garden party and reminisced with my old friends....
I am still smiling from the baby shower I attended last weekend for our friend Jo. (The one I was asking Cribsheeters or Baby Shower game advice on. btw - thank you for all the great ideas!)
It was a lovely event full of many heartfelt words, laughter, and more than a few happy tears. It was a Sunday brunch shower and a true garden party. The hosts decorated their lovely backyard with such charm I just had to share.
They hung little onesies and decorations from a clothesline. Of course the guest of honor was able to take them home and fold them neatly on her shelves. (she is totally nesting right now).
Our hostess, Colleen, did the smart double duty - centerpieces as gifts idea - so winners got to take home a potted herb or plant.
Speaking of winners - I was so happy that the grandmother-to-be won the ice cube/baby game (Put a tiny plastic baby in ice cube in your drink - first to have their baby melt out/deliver wins) She was able to declare "Oops, my water broke!"
It was fun and passively participatory game. There were mentions of, "Ice, Ice, Baby!" or "Ooh look my baby is crowning" I had to tell our friend Jenny that "No, it would be an unfair advantage to put your ice cube baby in your hot tea." We got her a cold beverage so she could play too.
Yes, there are presents to open, games to play and lots of gnoshing - but when it comes down to it, baby showers are an opportunity for friends and family to show their love and support and to welcome a much anticipated baby.
Now we're all just waiting patiently for that baby boy to make his big debut!
