There aren't too many conferences that make me feel flat-out jealous when I can't attend. But Finovate? I'd love to be there.

Finovate is a conference that gives personal finance and banking technology start-ups a chance to demo their business before industry leaders, bloggers, and journalists. It just wrapped up in New York, and I mostly followed along on Twitter.

A whopping 63 companies demonstrated their tools, and these demos will be available online soon. But until then, here are three of the "best of show" winners, selected by audience members with no affiliations to any of the companies presenting.

Which ones sound particularly cool to you?

BillGuard alerts you when there are hidden charges, billing errors, forgotten subscriptions, or signs of fraud that show up on your credit cards. It works by analyzing 100 metrics and scouring the web for complaints of similar charges.

eToro - an investment network that lets you share your trades, interact with other traders and copy what the top performing traders are doing.

FamZoo - A virtual family bank that claims to teach kids as young as four years old about money management and personal responsibility. I've been using threejars.com, which tracks allowance, but will need to take a closer look at this broader family banking program.
