I went to New Orleans recently for the first time. I didn't do a lot of advanced planning other than a couple of restaurant reservations. I bought a Frommers guide and then a Happenings book for $15, an excellent travel bargain.

All of the 2011 Happenings books across the country and in Canada are now $15 including shipping. I'll admit that I didn't spend a lot of time thumbing through the Entertainment Happenings book. I might be frugal, but the idea of eating somewhere or taking a tour just because I have a 2-4-1 coupon isn't my style.

So whenever I saw something in the Frommers guide that interested me, I checked the New Orleans Happenings book to see if there was a coupon. I checked to see if there was a coupon for a taxi from the airport. No luck. The restaurants I was interested in? Only one was in the book, although most were eliminated because we wanted to eat within walking distance of the French Quarter.

So with very little effort we saved more than $50 at Johnny's Po-Boy restaurant, a cemetery tour, a history of New Orleans walking tour and the Presbytere museum for a $15 investment.

If you order any of the 2011 Happenings books for major U.S. and Canadian cities, you pay only $15 (free shipping) while supplies last, but you must use the coupons by November 1. Order at Entertainment.

Here's a sampling of the cities included: Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Chicago, Milwaukee and Fairfax County, CT. Canadian cities include Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver. More than 130 cities are included.
