Not the kind of Minnesota buzz band that's boldly pushing any sonic envelope, Carroll boasts a refreshingly accessible, kaleidoscopic guitar-pop sound with traces of mellow Radiohead and psychedelic-era McCartney. The four-piece guitar-pop band took its name from a street in St. Paul — where the four out-of-state members met while attending Macalester College — and made its mark by winning Vita.mn's Are You Local? contest in 2013. They've been recording with the National's engineer in Philadelphia and are reportedly drumming up record-label interest. But for now, you can still catch them regularly at a club near you. carrollmusic.net
