Several weeks ago, I mentioned charities that will pick up items at your home. Here’s a slightly different niche — charities that help low-income women and men obtain clothing appropriate for interviews and jobs.
Consider donating spring and summer items in good condition. Women’s charities want blazers, suits, skirts, blouses, slacks, scarves, jewelry, toiletries, shoes, new undergarments and packaged hosiery. Plus sizes are always appreciated due to short supply.
Men’s charities seek suits, shirts, dress slacks, khakis, coats, toiletries, new underwear, shoes and socks. Call first to inquire about specific items. Only the Clothes Closet, Ready for Success and Vine & Branches are currently accepting men’s items. ¶
Don’t make the charity your dumping ground. If the item is something that you would wear to a job interview yourself, it should be fine. If not, it might be more appropriate for a different charity. If I’ve missed any charities that fit this category, please let me know.
