Psst: Fertile ground for niche mag

Last update: November 27, 2009 - 3:05 PM

FERTILE GROUND FOR NICHE MAG

Conceive magazine is five years old, which speaks to a persevering readership that likes the focused info the quarterly publication brings to the cause of infertility, as well as ads for more aids than you might imagine.

So props to editors for their humor in passing along tidbits that didn't warrant cover story treatment. For example, did you know that the smell of pumpkin pie can make some men sexually excited? Or that 11,000 Americans injure themselves annually trying out bizarre sex positions. Or that a man's, um, teammate shrinks when his football team scores a touchdown?

Here's something, however, that actually merited an item: A sperm bank, California Cryobank, lets clients look for celebrity look-alike sperm donors. A search at www.cryo bank.com/Donor-Search/ for a blond, blue-eyed Caucasian turned up one donor who (they say) resembles Joe Montana and another who looks like Ryan Seacrest. The disclaimers, as you might expect, drip as easily as Pitocin.

Mother Nature as a starstruck groupie? We think not.
