FM107 says so long to Burger; a P.S. on Hudson, and a little Love

"This one was a killer for me personally," said FM107's GM Dan Seeman, "because I've known Kevyn a long, long time. She's a great broadcaster. It was just a tough fit."

Seeman was talking about Kevyn Burger, who was fired from her FM107 show on Tuesday with months left on her contract. "When you look at Kevyn's background and all the years she was in television and all the years she covered and discussed more serious topics, which she is so good at, increasing this [celebrity-driven] turn with us got harder to do because it's not what she does naturally. It was just a tough fit. She tried."

How trying was it for the station to fire a talent who has made sales calls to bring revenue to the station, whose own battle with breast cancer brought Gracie Awards to the station, and who is in the throes of a divorce?

"That's kind of a loaded question," he said. "Listen, these are never easy decisions and they're never timely decisions."

As the talent with the FM107 show that had the lowest numbers, Burger shoulders some of the blame. I've been observing her for a long time, and she is unfortunately one of those people who is better at telling other people's stories than she is her own. Off-air, she's interesting and wickedly funny, but that's not what she delivered on the radio.

Seeman said the station is trying to find another place for Burger within the Hubbard empire. She could work wonders on that stultifying "Twin Cities Live," although that might be an assignment to a sinking ship.

Last time I saw Burger, she was at her FM107 producer Sheletta's MOA comedy performance.

Speaking of Sheletta, Seeman said she's staying: "We love Sheletta. ... And our listeners like her. We've got a spot for her. It's not been completely developed."

Steamed at Hudson

Kate Hudson's Dome appearance has become more irksome with word that A-Rod's girlfriend is a Steam fan.

Wisconsin sculptor Jude Ryan Reiling e-mailed that "Hudson was swinging from side to side in her seat singing, 'nah, nah, nah, nah ... nah, nah, nah, nah ... hey, hey, hey -- goodbye.'"

This tidbit is too good to be true, coming on the heels of Common Sense Insurance exec Kären Aäker's observation that Hudson had a 'tude on and didn't seem to want to be bothered with fans, even though she was sitting among them. So when I reached Reiling for an interview, she had to first promise that she wasn't pulling my leg. "No. She was singing her little song. It's so immature. Just rude," Reiling said. "There also was this Yankee fan holding up this towel [from his aisle seat] so nobody could see [Hudson]."

Reiling wishes Hudson had waved over some of the star-struck young fans who wanted a photo with the movie star.

A Tuesday call to the Yankees got me a chuckle from the media guy but no effort to get a comment from Hudson.

"I don't have one," Yankees media guy Jason Zillo said with a LAUGH. I pointed out that he was in a position to ask Hudson about this and get back to me and he said, "No. We usually don't have a comment."

Apologies to Hudson's fans for a second unflattering item about her, and I'm sorry to break the hearts of Kristinia DeBarge fans, who thought this young singer was creative enough to coin that nah, nah, nah, nah hook first heard in 1969 from the group Steam.

Loved being with Love

Bloomington's Michelle Monica performed recently with Slash, Nicole Sherzinger and Courtney Love in Vegas.

"I loved the experience," Monica said. "Working with those amazing, talented artists was such an honor. Right? There wasn't any, like, drama or bad stuff. It was just so amazing and fun. I definitely am looking forward to doing it again. I wasn't supposed to sing backup with Courtney Love, but Slash asked me to; he saw me perform with Nicole, and he said, 'Your voice is just amazing.'"

Monica said her time with Love was uneventful. Love jumped right into the music "instead of being so crazy, so Courtney Love. ... You got the pictures?"

I did, but Monica's face is obscured on all of them; see her at michellemonica.com.

Weather slows Adrian

Only lightning-fast Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had trouble with the weather Tuesday.

He was late to sign copies of a new WB DVD about his first two years in the NFL.

"Adrian Peterson is on his way. Of course, due to our lovely Minnesota weather and the lovely snowfall, we're already getting he's a little behind," a Best Buy staffer told the crowd. Huh?

Coming Sunday: Video from the event featuring the adorable Geno Scherado of Hopkins, who wasn't planning to wash his hand because Peterson shook it. Come on, Geno! How often do the hands of an 11-year-old boy get washed under any circumstance?
