Today is the final day that consumers can apply for digital TV converter box coupons.
Unless you have cable or satellite TV, the boxes are necessary now that over-the-air (analog) television is a thing of the past. The coupons are worth $40, and each household can request up to two.
The coupons can only be used for eligible converter boxes sold at participating consumer electronics retailers, and the coupons must be used at the time of purchase. They expire 90 days from the date they are mailed out, and they are transferable. So, if you already have one and don't need it, you can give it to another household.
Converter boxes range in price from $40 to $70.
To put in your request, visit www.dtv.gov/getcoupon.html or call 1-888-388-2009.
