Small outlets offer big savings

The deals at the Twin Cities' best mini outlet mall just got even better. During Über Outlet's three-day sale, save 70 percent on everything normally discounted 50 percent, including merchandise from Twill, Trail Mark, Epitome, Arafina, Ataz, Über Baby, Cribz and Look. Nearly all of the merchandise is fall/winter except some spring/summer items, such as men's Hickey Freeman and Hart Schaffner Marx suits discounted 80 percent. The sale runs today through Saturday at 6021 Lyndale Av. S., Minneapolis, 612-869-0930. Visit Myuberoutlet.com.

The Patina Outlet (410 E. 48th St., Mpls., 612-823-5719) opens with little fanfare several times a year with discounts of 50 to 75 percent on accent furniture, home accessories, bath and body products, handbags, candles, books, greeting cards and seasonal items. Most items are overstocks or have scratch-and-dent packaging. Word has spread, so expect a line at 8 a.m today. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Jewelry sample sale

Atlanta's and Dallas' loss is our gain. A jewelry wholesaler, Teresa Goodall Inc., in Minneapolis has decided to offer its sample sale here. Save 75 to 80 percent off retail prices for necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Most of the necklaces that were priced at $50 to $100 will be $5 to $30. Bracelets will be about $5 and earrings $4 to $12. The jewelry is normally sold in boutiques and museum shops to a 35-and-older demographic. One of two sales will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Robbinsdale Cooper High School (8230 47th Av. N., New Hope, 612-522-6286). A second one will be Nov. 22 at St. Michael-Albertville High School (11343 50th St. NE., Albertville, Minn.). Items are from previous seasons, but current pieces can be viewed at www.teresagoodall.net. Each sale will have about 500 necklaces, 500 pairs of earrings and 100 bracelets.

Learning to cut hair at home

The economy has many of us doing things we never did before: skipping the salon to save money and cutting family members' hair at home. Wahl Clipper Corp. will hold hair-cutting demos at the Mall of America. The step-by-step process for trimming boys' and men's hair will be shown at the top of the hour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at 6:30 and 8 p.m. Friday and at the top of the hour from 1 to 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Rotunda on the first floor between Sears and Bloomingdale's. Products will be raffled but not sold.
