Two suburban remakes

The swank clubhouse at Edinburgh USA is now home to the Girvan Grille (8700 Edinbrook Crossing, Brooklyn Park, girvangrille.com), where chef Jim Malinowski is serving lunch and dinner (steaks, ribs, cedar-planked salmon, burgers, a walleye BLT) daily as well as a Sunday buffet brunch.

The Medina Entertainment Center (500 Hwy. 55, Medina, medinaentertainment.com) has remade its dining facilities. Robert's Restaurant & Bar is now serving lunch and dinner daily, along with a Sunday brunch buffet.

Fighting childhood hunger

Now through Sunday, nearly 4,000 restaurants nationwide are participating in Share Our Strength Great American Dine Out, donating a percentage of their sales to Share Our Strength, a national organization that brings together community groups and food programs to feed at-risk children. Participating Twin Cities restaurants include M&S Grill and Masa in Minneapolis, Forepaugh's in St. Paul, California Cafe at the Mall of America and most Caribou Coffee and Buffalo Wild Wings outlets. Tasty events

Common Roots Cafe (2558 Lyndale Av. S., Minneapolis, commonrootscafe.com) is playing host Friday evening to a salsa- and wine-tasting event benefiting the Youth Farm & Market Project, a super-cool nonprofit that gives hundreds of urban youths hands-on experience in growing, cooking, eating and selling produce. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door; call 612-872-4226.

The Lake Pepin Food, Wine & Cider Festival happens Saturday at the Maiden Rock Winery & Cidery (W12266 King Lane, Stockholm, Wis.). Check out Wisconsin-made wines and ciders and a meal prepared by Judy Krohn of the Harbor View Cafe in Pepin, Wis. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Reservations ($25) are required; call 715-448-3502.

"Top Chef" fans can meet host Tom Colicchio at Taste! 2008, a weekend of food- and wine-related events Oct. 3-4 at the W Minneapolis-The Foshay (821 Marquette Av. S.). Tickets are $75 to $135; go to mspmag.com/taste.
