As it has for the past 43 years, the Minnesota Renaissance Festival transports thousands of visitors to the 16th century every weekend. From its medieval-style buildings to its dirt roads, the Shakopee festival is a favorite of folks who like to dress in their 1500s best and watch jousting, fencing and insult-swapping, as well as the more delicate arts of belly dancing, face painting and tarot-card reading.

The littlest Renaissance enthusiasts have treats all their own, such as being entranced by mermaids or offered rides on ponies. Or camels. Or llamas. Or elephants.

The festival runs through Sept. 28. Go to www. renaissancefest.com for more information.
