According to Chinese folklore, the dragon holds the power to bring rain. That held true at the Dragon Festival at Lake Phalen Park in St. Paul. It rained off and on during the annual two-day event, which celebrates Asian-Pacific cultures. But a little rain couldn’t derail the centerpiece of the festival: racing dragon boats. The boats, at 40 feet long, are ornately decorated to look like the mythical beast. With drummers pounding out a fast-paced rhythm, 20-member teams sprint against one another in a series of lively, colorful races that bring history to life.
