MADISON, Wis. — A southwestern Wisconsin historical site is set to host a re-enactment of a War of 1812 battle.

The Villa Louis mansion will commemorate the 200th anniversary of a battle on Saturday and Sunday. The battle, which pitted U.S. troops against British-Canadian soldiers, took place on what is now the mansion's west lawn from July 17 through July 20, 1814. It was the only battle in the war that took place on Wisconsin soil.

The mansion also plans an outdoor dance on Saturday evening as part of the commemoration.

The Prairie du Chien mansion is the centerpiece of a grand Victorian estate that fur trader Hercules Dousman's family built.
