He really loves Britney, even after belly flop

Last update: September 13, 2007 - 9:10 PM

It's tough being Britney Spears. Just ask über-fan Chris Crocker.

Spears prompted a backlash Sunday night after she sleepwalked through a disastrous lip-synced performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. But then Crocker took her embarrassing appearance to new heights by recording an expletive-filled video plea for everyone to "leave Britney alone!"

The clip has become YouTube's latest must-see video (www.startribune.com/a3338). It was posted only Tuesday but has already become a camp classic worthy of the most outlandish Joan Crawford impersonation. By Thursday night, it had received more than 4 million views.

"All you people care about is readers and making money off of her," Crocker screams in the clip as tears make his heavy eyeliner run. "She's a human!"

In an interview with MSNBC, Crocker insisted that his videotaped tirade was genuine, not a performance -- even though he refers to himself as a diva. What happens with Spears is serious business, he insists.

"For my generation, it's just as big of a topic as 9/11," he told MSNBC.
