Bio: Earlene Bennett, 61, Golden Valley

Last update: February 23, 2006 - 10:44 AM

Her story: Bennett, a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines, spent a decade taking synthetic hormones before she tried bioidenticals. Her landlord in New York, where she stays when she's flying, mentioned Suzanne Somers' book about their benefits, called "The Sexy Years." Bennett balked at first, and then read it. When her longtime physician wouldn't support her interest in custom-compounded bioidenticals, she found one who did. Her treatment, a combination of three hormones, comes in a cream that she applies twice a day to the inside of her wrist or elbow. She likes the fact that her treatment "is based on what I would need." - LEYLA KOKMEN
