The old excuse that "the dog ate my homework" pales in comparison with things that pets have really eaten. Dogs and cats are notorious for "snacking" on anything and everything they can find. Even careful pet-proofing does not guarantee that your precious pet won't swallow items you never thought of, such as towels or socks. These unseen dangers can be expensive to remove, and can even be fatal to Fido or Fluffy. Here are some of the most unusual items dogs and cats have swallowed and the cost of removing them, according to the American Kennel Club and pet health-care provider PetPartners Inc.:Interestingly, homework didn't make the list.
