KANSAS CITY, MO. – No. 13 Iowa State rallied from a double-digit deficit for the fourth consecutivegame, then watched Oklahoma's Ryan Spangler miss a point-blank layup at the buzzer that gave the Cyclones a 67-65 victory over the No. 15 Sooners in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals Friday night.
Georges Niang had 13 points, Jameel McKay added 12 and Monte Morris had 11 for the second-seeded Cyclones (24-8), who needed a buzzer-beater to beat Texas in the quarterfinals. The defending champions will play No. 9 Kansas, the top seed, for the title Saturday night.
The Jayhawks (26-7) beat 16th-ranked Baylor 62-52. Leading scorer Perry Ellis returned from an injury to add 11 points for the Jayhawks (26-7), but he limped off the floor after getting tangled up late and didn't return.
"I could have put him back in late," Kansas coach Bill Self said, "but I thought we had the game."
Buddy Hield scored 16 points for the Sooners (22-10).
