Day 6 - Create you radio commercial

Create a simple 15-second sales pitch about yourself to present to network contacts.

Last update: February 28, 2006 - 9:41 AM

On Day 4 you generated a list of potential jobs that use your skills and on Day 5 you narrowed that list down based on where you want to work.

Now you have a clear idea of a job, you will create a "radio commercial" to help you get hired.

Your "radio commercial" is simply a 15-second sales pitch about yourself you will use when talking to network contacts.

Here's an example: "I'm looking for a company that needs an operations manager with 11 years of experience, who cut costs by $3 million while increasing production 23 percent last year. Who do you know that I should be talking to?"

IMPORTANT: Before using it, say your radio commerical about yourself to at least three friends to get their feedback. This is critical, because you're simply too close to this information to be 100 percent objective.

So don't take chances.

After creating your pitch, ask at least six friends to provide honest feedback. Why ask six people? You need six to get feedback from at least three - within 24 hours -since half will be unavailable or will forget.

OK! That's it for today!

Day 7: Write your resume and cover letter - print and online.
