1. Everything looks different! What is the difference between the old Jobs online and the new Jobs online?

Star Tribune Jobs online is the leading online Twin Cities employment site. Jobs online continues to feature timely employment news and information. You will find thousands of job listings, e-mail links directly to employers, and résumé building software to give you the competitive edge.

Jobs online is your resource to finding that first position, a better job, or an entirely different career. Use Jobs online and enjoy:

  • Online Résumé Management Tools
    Use Jobs online to save multiple copies of your résumés. To do this, you must set up an account with Jobs online. There are many advantages to setting up an online account. A few highlights:

  • Storing résumés
    You have the option to store multiple versions of your résumé and cover letter. Save different versions for different job types.

  • Confidentiality
    You control who views your résumé online. You achieve this by enacting one of the two options:
      1. Post your résuméand the service can automatically match it with all job openings, and employers can contact you directly.
      2. Choose the confidential résumé option to hide your personal information from employers until you are notified via e-mail. You can then choose to display your personal information.

  • Job Alerts
    Once you set up an account, it is possible for you to set up Job Alerts. Job Alerts send job posting to your e-mail based on your selected criteria. Set up how many times a day, week, or month you would like to receive your list of job postings.

  • Career Management Tool - The Job Cycle

3. What is the difference between Jobs online and the classifieds listed in the Star Tribune?

4. Can I search multiple classifications?

5. How often are job postings updated?
Online, job postings can be updated several times daily.

7. How much does it cost?
There is no cost associated with this service. It is free from Jobs online.

8. I am new to Jobs online. How can I get started?
To start enjoying Star Tribune Jobs online services, visit the Jobs online page. Search through thousand of job postings by entering information into the job search box.

To maximize your job search experience, you must set up an account. This account is separate from your StarTribune.com account. With this account you can save multiple résumé and covers letters, have job postings sent to you, and look through thousands of listings.

9. How do I enter my résumé information?
It's easy. First, you must create an account. To create an account, click here. After creating an account, simply go to "Create a résumé" and upload a Microsoft Word (.doc) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) version or paste a basic html or plain document.

10. Can my résumé, saved as Microsoft Word, be copied and pasted into the résumé section?
No, your Microsoft Word document must be saved as 'Text Only.' To do this, please open your MS Word document, go to the 'File' menu and select 'Save As.' A menu will pop up and you will want to select 'Text Only (*.txt). You can then use this new Text document to copy and paste into the résumé section. NOTE: You may have to reformat some information that is lost in the translation from MS Word to Text Only.

11. How do I access my information?
Your information is stored under your account. To access your account, simply log in under "My Jobs" heading, found here. At the login screen, enter your e-mail address and password. The e-mail address is the e-mail address you signed up with.

  • If you have forgotten your password, click here.
  • If you do not yet have an account, create one here.
  • If your account is not found, is it possible you signed up with a different e-mail address?

12. How do I know my personal information is secure?
Your information is secure with us, and we will not sell your information to other companies.

13. I've forgotten my name and password. How do I retrieve them?
There is a link under the login box called "Lost password?" Put in your e-mail address and you will be sent login information.

14. How can I keep my job search confidential?
You have three options when storing your résumé on Star Tribune Jobs online:

    1. You can make it completely public with all contact information available to employers.
    2. You can make it confidential - not showing your contact information but still searchable in the database.
    3. You can remove your résumé from the searchable database by 'deactivating' the résumé.

15. Who do I contact once I sent my résumé? Do I contact Job online?
No. Jobs online will send your information to the interested party. After that, if the employer is interested in contacting you to obtain further information, they will do so directly.
