ROME — Two months after deporting them, Italy has reversed itself and says it will welcome back the wife and 6-year-old daughter of an exiled businessman who is a foe of Kazakhstan's government.

Premier Enrico Letta's office said Friday that an investigation had determined that new evidence found should have been taken into consideration by the Italian judicial authorities who approved the deportation in the first place.

Mukhtar Ablyazov's wife and child were deported to Kazakhstan in late May on grounds that the mother carried an allegedly forged passport. It's unclear how the Kazakh government will respond.

Ablyazov, who is believed to have funded opposition groups, is wanted by Kazakh authorities on charges of siphoning off billions of dollars from a bank. The businessman denies wrongdoing.
