A Minneapolis man accused of raping, beating and torturing his twin daughters is scheduled to make a pretrial court appearance in late June in Hennepin County District Court.

Jerry Lee Curry, 52, who was arrested on Feb. 21, is accused of subjecting the 21-year-olds with developmental disabilities to years of physical and sexual abuse, and medical neglect, at the family's house in south Minneapolis. The two women described being repeatedly raped, beaten with bats, and chained to doors for days at a time by Curry. He also fathered two children from one of the daughters, according to court documents.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman has referred to the house where the abuse allegedly occurred as a "house of horrors" and called the allegations "as repugnant and horrifying as anything I have seen in my 18 years as a county attorney."

According to court documents, the twins suffered significant injuries and visible scars from the years of abuse, which included being struck with fists, bats and brooms by Curry.

One of the girls described being chained so long that she suffered ankle wounds that bled and became infected. She eventually developed gangrene and had to undergo surgery to avoid losing her legs, court records show. The same girl also lost part of her ear as a result of Curry stomping on her head, according to a criminal complaint. Another girl who lived in the home said that Curry struck her with a golf club in the head when she was in second or third grade.

Clinicians who examined the twins concluded that they had been subjected to abuse that was "clinically diagnostic of torture," court records show.

A hearing that was scheduled for today was postponed to June 29. Attorneys for Curry and the Hennepin County Attorney's Office are expected to discuss evidence in the case and set a trial date. Curry, who is still in custody, faces eight felony charges, including two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of criminal sexual conduct; and one count of child endangerment, a gross misdemeanor.
