Authorities on Sunday identified the two men who were fatally stabbed a day earlier at a Salvation Army apartment building in Rochester, where they lived.

In the meantime, a 64-year-old man who also lived at the Castleview Apartments remains jailed on suspicion of second-degree murder. He has yet to be charged.

Phillip W. Hicks, 57, and Eric A. Flemming, 45, were identified by police as the men who were killed at the apartments in the 100 block of N. Broadway. Police were alerted to the violence about 7:15 p.m., and the men were pronounced dead at a hospital 45 minutes later.

The suspect was spotted by an officer leaving out the back and was arrested.

Police Capt. John Sherwin told the Rochester Post-Bulletin that the suspect was heavily under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest. He did not offer a motive for the killings, which occurred on the fourth floor.

In a statement released Saturday, the Salvation Army said, "This was a terrible tragedy, and it is being investigated. "Until the police have done their investigation, there's really nothing we can provide until that has been accomplished."
