Bungalow beauties

Find out why bungalow owners love their vintage gems at the Twin Cities Bungalow Club Home Tour on Saturday. The six homes, open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., boast classic bungalow qualities, such as original built-in oak bookcases and buffets, fireplaces, vintage light fixtures and Arts and Crafts details. Bungalow enthusiasts also can gather ideas on rehabbing and updating their own spaces to complement the Craftsman qualities of this early 1900s architectural style.

"The tour shows what people have done to make these houses livable for the 21st century, while retaining their charm, character and scale," said Tim Counts, club president. Attics converted into master suites, a revamped four-season front porch and an Art Deco-style bathroom are some of the remodeling projects featured on the tour.

Pick up a map with the homes' addresses and descriptions after 10 a.m. Saturday at the first house, 4231 Blaisdell Av. S., Minneapolis. Cost is $5; free for Bungalow Club members. Go to www.bungalowclub.org or call 612-724-5816.
