After a little coaching by none other than Cher, 19-year-old Hopkins High grad Holly Henry beat out her competitor in the battle round on NBC’s “The Voice” last night to move on as one of the show’s top 24 finalists.
Henry sang the Natalie Imbruglia hit “Torn” with/against recent Stanford grad Chill Chan. Before taking the stage, her team leader Blake Shelton brought in Cher to offer the young woman her advice – which was (as seen in the clip below), “I so want to see your eyes, [because] I really wanna see how you feel.” That seemed like ironic advice given the immobility of Cher’s own face nowadays (rimshot!), but it also seemed to work.
In picking Henry for his team, Shelton said he “needed to figure out which one of you will rise up.”
Henry joins the top 24 with fellow Twin Cities singer Ashley DuBose, who passed her battle round last week. With a little break before returning to the "The Voice," DuBose is squeezing in a performance at the University of Minnesota's Whole Music Club on Friday with Greg Grease (9:30 p.m., free)
