Gophers opposite hitter Katherine Harms was named a first-team All-America, while middle blocker Tori Dixon was named a second-team honoree, the America Volleyball Coaches Association announced.

The All-America honors follow all-region and All-Big Ten selections for the duo. The Harms and Dixon selections mark the ninth time in the past 11 years that a Gopher has received All-America status and the 22nd and 23rd honors in school history. It also is the first All-America selection for each player.

In addition, outside hitter Ashley Wittman was named an honorable mention All-America.

Harms, a senior from Albertville, saved her best season for her last as she led the team in kills (516), kills per set (4.10) and points (607.5). Dixon, a junior from Burnsville, hit .436 this season, which ranked fourth-best nationally and led the Big Ten. Wittman, a junior from Shakopee, ranked third on the team with 357 kills to average 2.86 kills per set.

Farmington to move to South Suburban Farmington High School, which expects to see enrollment growth, plans to join the South Suburban Conference starting in the 2014-15 school year.

The 10-member South Suburban Conference voted unanimously to accept Farmington's application. The school, which competes in the Missota Conference, cited a desire to participate with "competitively sized schools" and shorter travel distances between member schools.

Farmington's enrollment of 1,565 students ranks ahead of only Bloomington Kennedy and Bloomington Jefferson among South Suburban schools. The school said competing in the Missota requires travel averaging nearly 28 miles between member schools. In the South Suburban, it would shrink to about 13 miles.

Farmington was a charter member of the Missota in 1960. It moved to the Tri-Metro Conference in 1983-84 before returning to the Missota in 1997-98. The conference also includes Chaska, Chanhassen, Holy Angels, Northfield, New Prague, Red Wing and Shakopee.

South Suburban schools include Apple Valley, Rosemount, Eagan, Eastview, Lakeville North, Lake South, Burnsville, Prior Lake, Bloomington Jefferson and Bloomington Kennedy.

The move is pending approval by the Farmington school board, which is expected to take up the matter in January.
