Sen. Barb Goodwin, DFL-Columbia Heights, is miffed at the Minnesota Vikings.
Goodwin’s district includes Arden Hills, where the team announced Tuesday it planned to build a new 65,000-seat stadium with the financial help of Ramsey County and the state.
But roughly two months ago, amid indications Ramsey County was eyeing a bid to lure the team, Goodwin said she was told a different story by the Vikings. “One of their lobbyists told me that. . .they really want it in Minneapolis,” she said. “I said, ‘I’m glad. . .at least I finally know.’
“[I said] ‘Thank you for coming to tell me that because now I know I’m not going to have this big hassle in my county,’ ” she added.
Goodwin however said that all changed when Ramsey County’s board of commissioners officially announced they would pursue putting a Vikings stadium in suburban Arden Hills. “After Ramsey County started pursuing it, the Vikings lobbyist came back and said, ‘No, we’re going to talk to Ramsey County,’ “ she said.
“And I said, ‘Well, you just have been telling me you want it in Minneapolis, and he said, ‘I never said that,’ “ Goodwin added.
“I said, ‘You most certainly did,' ” she added. “I know exactly what he said.”
Goodwin identified the Vikings lobbyist as Larry Redmond, one of nine Vikings lobbyists registered with the state.
Asked about Goodman’s story Friday, Redmond declined to comment.
