Virgin of Guadalupe Day, a national holiday in Mexico that marks an appearance of the Virgin Mary was celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe in St. Paul Thursday night. The holiday commemorates when the Virgin Mary was said to appear before Juan Diego on a hill near Mexico City in 1531. The archbishop of Mexico City then built a shrine to her on that hill, where on December 12, the faithful flock there and leave roses to pay homage to her.
The Minnesota Twins and WCCO cohosted Home for the Holidays for local veterans Thursday at Target Field in Minneapolis. There was a holiday meal, and supplies and services were offered for homeless veterans.
