Twitter can be many things: funny, snarky, foolish, informative.

It can also be a quick way to get a strong message to the masses. Twins closer Glen Perkins, a former Gophers pitching standout, used the social media platform Thursday night to pay tribute to Todd Oakes. The Gophers pitching coach died earlier in the day after a long battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Perkins tapped the heartfelt note on his phone and zapped it out to his more than 44,000 followers:
