Photo Gallery: Longfellow Gardens, 1907-1934

Published Monday, September 28, 2009

A look back at Longfellow Gardens, a zoo that opened near Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis in 1907. At its peak the zoo boasted a variety of animals: hippos, camels, elephants and, of course, lions and tigers and bears. Most were kept in small pens, pits or cages. When the zoo closed in 1934, many of its animals were relocated to the Como Zoo in St. Paul.
