On Sunday, May 12, some 500 visitors are expected for the first annual Hmong American Day in St. Paul. The celebration, which is free and open to the public, commemorates May 14, 1975, the day that Gen. Vang Pao fled Laos and settled in America, opening the door to a Hmong community that now exceeds 60,000 residents in Minnesota alone.
