

When Target Corp. bought a small building at 10th Street and Nicollet Mall a year ago, the conventional wisdom was that the Minneapolis-based retailer would be the next (and final) builder of a skyscraper downtown. That may still be the case, but in the meantime, the space was renovated into a kind of "employee union," with bike storage, lockers, a lounge, cafeteria and a human chess board -- a space where employees can blow off a little steam.
