Brandi Carlile at the Fitzgerald Theater last November. / Star Tribune file

Brandi Carlile, Mike Doughty, Martha Wainwright and Lissie will be the musical guests and Julia Sweeney (“Saturday Night Live”), Dave Foley (“News Radio,” “Kids in the Hall”), Henry Rollins (“Sons of Anarchy,” “The Chase”) and comedian Maria Bamford will be the comedic partners in a four-show fall season of Minnesota Public Radio’s hit show “Wits.” This is the first time the hip variety show – hosted by MPR personality John Moe with music director John Munson – has gone about its business in the fall. To add to the momentum, Moe will also add a weekly podcast to go along the show. Here is the schedule:

Nov. 2: Dave Foley and Mike Doughty
Nov. 16: Julia Sweeney and Martha Wainwright
Nov. 30: Maria Bamford and Brandi Carlile
Dec. 14: Henry Rollins and Lissie.

Rollins happens to be stopping by the Fitz on Thursday as part of his Capitalism Tour (spoken-word/storytelling). He's a surprisingly funny guy with ample radio experience, but fans sure would like to see him tear into "Slip It In" or "Liar" or any of his Black Flag/Rollins Band songs one of these times in town. Carlile performed at the theater last year on the same November weekend as this year's “Wits” appearance – which is bound to be the hottest ticket of the four, thanks to her popularity. Sweeney is now a popular writer and monologuist and should make for a great pairing with the equally colorful Wainwright (daughter of Loudon, sister of Rufus). Foley's show with ex-Soul Coughing frontman Doughty will be more for the warped and demented "Wits" fans.

Single tickets go on sale Oct. 9 at noon for $32 and $42 via the Fitzgerald box office, box office at 651-290-1200 or online at Season ticket packages are also available starting on Oct. 5 for $119 or $159.
