Junior Michael Dorr, who left the Gophers in midseason as a freshman, will be one of the MSU Mankato's co-captains for next season along with sophomore defenseman Tyler Elbrecht.

Award winners for the Mavericks this past season were:

MVP: Senior D-man Kurt Davis of Plymouth. He was a four-year letterwinner, twice an all-WCHA third team pick and had 21 goals and 75 assists for 96 points in 150 games. He led the Mavericks in scoring as a sophomore and senior. This season he had nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points

Unsung hero and three-star of the year award: Senior D-man Ben Youds of Maple Grove. He as fourth on team in scoring this season with seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points.

Most improved player: Junior D-man Cameron Cooper of Lakeville. He had three goals and two assists for five points in 37 games.

Best hustle award: Sophomore D-man Tyler Elbrecht of Edwardsville, Ill. Was a plus-5, played in all 38 games, had one goal and seven assists for eight points.

Leadership award: Senior forward Rylan Galiardi of Calgary, Alberta. He was the team captain and signed an amateur tryout offer with San Antonio of AHL after Mavs' season was over. He had seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points this past season.

Dorr, of Roseville, was second on the team in scoring with 26 points, including a team-high 12 goals. He also led the team with three game-winners, and tied for the lead with four power-play goals. ... Alternate captains will rotate monthly next season. Cooper will be the first.

BOYD SCORES VS. RUSSIA

Future Gopehrs Travis Boyd of Hopkins scored the game's first goal as the U.S. edged Russia 4-3 in the IIHF under-18 championships on Sunday in Crimmitschau, Germany.
