EAGLE PASS, Texas — Authorities say they've apprehended an escaped convict in South Texas who was part of a massive prison break last year in Mexico.

U.S. marshals said late Monday they were acting on a tip when they found 24-year-old Gustavo Rodriguez Costilla (kos-TEE'-yah) hiding in a home Friday in Eagle Pass, about 140 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Rodriguez is believed to be one of 130 people who broke out of the prison in Piedras Negras in September. The prison is across the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass. Authorities say the break was organized by the Zetas drug cartel to recover members who had been imprisoned.

Rodriguez was jailed in Mexico for possessing firearms and grenades. He was being held Tuesday in the Maverick County jail.
