TV critic's picks: Trial of the century

Last update: November 12, 2009 - 6:56 PM

Trial of the century

Rain Man finally gets some sleep. His hero, Judge Joseph Wapner, celebrates his 90th birthday by returning for a one-time appearance to "The People's Court" (2 p.m. today, WUCW, Ch. 23). During the proceedings, Wapner reverses Roe v. Wade, gives dogs the right to vote and declares that every American deserves free pancakes.

Just when we finally thought we had figured out Patrick McGoohan's 1967 original comes the three-part remake of "The Prisoner" (7 p.m. Sunday, AMC), which continues Monday and Tuesday. This time, it's Jim Caviezel who's stuck in the mysterious village and, in addition to that floating, attacking ball, he has to contend with Ian McKellen.

Around the world in seven days

Travel the world without expense (or jet lag) by hitching a ride on "Expedition Week," which kicks off with "Search for the Amazon Headshrinkers" (8 p.m. Sunday, National Geographic Channel). Come to think of it, that sounds like a pretty decent title for an Indiana Jones thriller. Other adventures this week include hunts for great white sharks and Samurai submarines.

Checkup appointment

Mandy Patinkin, who previously quit CBS dramas "Chicago Hope" and "Criminal Minds," returns to the network for a guest appearance on the organ-donation drama "Three Rivers" (8 p.m. Sunday, WCCO, Ch. 4). The Emmy winner, pictured with series cast member Alex O'Loughlin, left, is most likely returning to his old grounds because he was the recipient of corneal transplants in the late '90s. Also, he left an umbrella in his dressing room.
